Programs by grade level:
Wondertots
(Pre-K - K)
Kindergarten Science (K)
WONDERTOTS
Preschool science programs for your special group of WONDERTOTS.
Children will guess, test, and find out that science can be fun!
WonderTots programs are multidisciplinary experiences that engage
young children in a variety of learning activities inspired by
a familiar theme. Programs last 75 minutes. Appropriate for ages
4-5. Bold numbers indicate CT state science standards supported
by this program.
WonderTots Fees:
$120 minimum fee for up to 12 students
Add $10 per student up to a maximum of 25
Classes in excess of 25 students requires an additional classroom
and an additional minimum fee.
Float, Float, Float Your Boat (K.1)
Learn about buoyancy and displacement through water experimentation.
Then construct your own foil boat. Estimate and count the number
of marbles your boat will float. Graph your results. Apply
new found knowledge of displacement by helping Aesop’s
crow get his drink!
Machine Mania (K.4)
Students discover first hand how wheels and axles really work
by building and testing mini vehicles. Use different heights
of inclined planes (ramps) to find the height that yields the
maximum distance. Learn about gravity and friction by playing
with simple machines. It will drive them wild!
Marvelous Me (K.1)
Explore the senses through an interactive story. Conduct an experiment
for each one and record observations. Construct a collage to
remind students how the brain works to help them experience
their world. See, hear, smell, taste, and touch…your
body will tell you oh so much!
Air, Air Everywhere (K.1)
A windy workshop that begins with a story and props that allow
children to capture the invisible gas, see its force and feel
its power. Students will act out the water cycle and record
it in pictures. They will construct and experiment with their
own mini parachutes.
It’s Alive! (K.1)
After an interactive story, students will delight in this exploration
of live creepy crawlers. They will observe and record characteristics
and create their own magnificent mini-beast sculptures.
Bubbles, Bubbles, All Around (K.1)
Children follow their own bubble recipes, then test the bubble
size and longevity. They make bubble “cities,” prints,
windows, and wands. They’ll even make their bubble snack
dance!
Kindergarten Science Showcase
A series of 90-minute programs designed specifically
for kindergarteners. Each Showcase builds upon themes familiar
to young children. Activities are designed to encourage the application
of concepts presented in short demonstrations or a planetarium
show. Several different teaching techniques are used, including
hands-on exploration, arts and crafts, and storytelling. Bold numbers
indicate CT state science standards supported by this program.
Kindergarten Science Showcase Fees:
$220 minimum fee for up to 20 students
Add $11 per student up to a maximum of 25
Classes in excess of 25 students requires an additional classroom
and an additional minimum fee.
Gravity Games (K.1, K.4) NEW!
Let the good times roll with this
study of marbles, ramps, and gravity. Students will assemble
marble tracks and learn to control
the speed and timing of a rolling marble.
Star Struck (K.1) NEW!
Your students will learn about the night
sky in our planetarium, and then make constellations of their
own. They will turn their
constellation into a slide that can be projected onto the ceiling
-- their very own planetarium! Optional materials fee of $3/student
for take-home flashlights.
Star Shapes (K.1)
Children watch the Star Shapes planetarium show, then move to
a workshop to act out the star creation story to music. They
will create their own stars, choose their color determined
by heat, and make a chart to organize their data. A visit to
relevant Hands-On Science Galleries is included.
Bubbles! (K.1)
Who knew that dish soap could have this much science AND fun
inside of it? In a hands-on exploration lab, the children experience
the magic of bubbles big and small while they explore some
of the amazing properties of soap bubbles and films! Learn
where the colors in a bubble come from and why bubbles are
always round.
Sound! (K.1)
A story about the science of sound sets the stage for this super
(and noisy!) Science Showcase. In an exploration lab the children
build unusual noisemakers and instruments as well as other
devices that they use to explore the way things make noise.
An exciting and interactive science demonstration follows to
help children examine how sounds are made, and why some sounds
are loud and some are quiet.
Magnets! (K.1)
In a hands-on exploration lab, children become expert ‘Magnetologists,’ wielding
their magneting wands to explore the curious properties of magnets
and other materials. Then, inspired by a popular children’s
story, students put their knowledge to practical use as they
go on a fun-filled fishing expedition.
Sink and Float! (K.1)
A wet and wacky workshop that involves students in the art and
science of boat-building. Buoyancy and other water science
concepts are illustrated with stories, hands-on experiments
and projects. Be prepared for an ocean of learning with this
Kindergarten Science Showcase.
