Science Demonstrations By Grade Level
Grades 1-2
Grades 3-5
Grades 6-9

Excite and motivate young minds with lively 45-minute participatory presentations. Students are actively involved with these dramatic and fun introductions to basic science concepts. Learning objectives can be expanded and reinforced by pairing demonstrations with science learning labs or a planetarium show for a full day program.

Fee: $130 minimum for up to 20 students,
Add $6.50 per student up to a maximum of 80 to 110
depending on the age of the students.

Demonstrations For Grades 1-2

Air
What is air? Why do airplanes fly? Does air have weight? Explore these and other topics like why candles burn, super cold liquid “air” (nitrogen) and how hot air balloons work.

Color
Learn about primary and secondary colors. Mix colors of light to make other colors. See a rainbow. Explore colors we don’t normally see, such as infrared and ultraviolet.

Simpler Machines
Explore machines in our every day lives. Relate some common items like a see-saw, slide and merry-go-round to how machines make work easier, quicker, and more fun.

Space: The Earth, Sun, & Moon
Use everyday objects to explore the relative sizes and distances between the Earth, Sun, and Moon. Learn the how, what, and why of craters, eclipses, and phases of the Moon.

Demonstrations For Grades 3-5

Moon Mania
Introduce your students to Moon/Earth differences in size, gravity, surface features, and temperature, as well as NASA spin-offs, and getting to the Moon, in a high-energy presentation about our nearest neighbor! Also available for grades 6-9.

Chemistry I
Chemistry seems magical with this demonstration of changes of state (solids to liquids, liquids to gases), mixtures, solutions, and chemical reactions.

Electricity I
How is electricity created? Discover the differences between static and electric electricity. Witness the power of lightening bolts and light bulbs illuminated without wires. Learn about different ways that electricity can be produced.

Light
Learn about ultraviolet and infrared light. Discover prisms, lasers, fiber optics, and polarized light.

Simple Machines
See how the lever, inclined plane, wheel and axle, screw, and pulley make use of mechanical advantage to make life easier!

Sound
Listen and observe the interaction of sound waves. Learn about pitch, volume, and the transmission of sound. Watch as lasers, slinkies, and other devices demonstrate the concept of sound.

Aerodynamics & Flight
A look at the chemistry and physics of air. What is air made of? How does it behave? How do airplanes fly? What about balloons and rocket ships? Get the answers to these and all of your lofty questions in this fun demonstration.

Space
How is space different from Earth? Discover that air has weight and pressure; see how an airplane flies; touch a Space Shuttle tile; learn about gravity and free fall. (Recommended for grades 4-5.)

Violent Weather
What is weather? How do storms form? Why does it get violent? Explore the causes and effects of thunder and lightening, learn about the Bernoulli effect, convection currents, and microbursts.

Deep Sea Designs
How would you build a submarine? What shape should it be? What should it be made of? How do you make it go down and up? What systems are needed inside for people to survive the trip? These and other questions will be skillfully answered by submarine designer and builder Alan Winick for this "total immersion" program (can be modified for grades 6-9).

A more advanced look at chemistry with more demonstrations (see listing in Grades 3-5).

Electricity II
A more advanced look at electricity (see listing in Grades 3-5).

Power Up!
This exciting demonstration tackles the hot topic of alternative energy. Find out why fossil fuels are a dead end, and learn about the fascinating new ways to power our lives.
