Paintings and Photographs:
chimpanzee BONOBO human gorilla orangutan

June 5 – September 30, 2008

Everyone is familiar with the comparisons between human and our “closest cousins” – chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans. But have you heard of Bonobos, a lesser-known chimp-like ape? Human DNA is 98.4 percent identical to the DNA of chimps and bonobos. Bonobos are slender, smaller, and more peaceful than chimpanzees. They eat less meat and are not great hunters. Males and females share dominance. Between 5000 and 25,000 of the peaceful primates live in the Congo (formerly Zaire).

Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Colleen Moritz graduated from Keene State College, Keene, New Hampshire with a BA in Fine Arts and Political Science. She continued studies in painting at the Museum School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and has shown her photographs throughout the Northeast.
